The Tummy Tuck Procedure
By: Arturo Ronzon Abdominoplasty surgery is a major surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen. Popularly known as the tummy tuck, this surgical procedure can also tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The tummy tuck is best at addressing protruding or sagging abdominal muscles. Sagging tummies can result from having lost a large amount of weight in a short amount of time. This usually happens when someone goes on a crash diet. Sagging tummies can also be the result of pregnancy. Some women find that they are left with a saggy abdomen with stretch marks after giving birth to a large baby. Do realize however that a tummy tuck is a major surgical procedure that will leave you with a large scar. The incisions performed are normally one that will span from hip to hip, dipping down to just above the pubic area. The other incision is one around the navel to allow the abdominal skin to peel off from that area. When considering a tummy tuck, one should be in good health to avoid any complications during and after surgery. A tummy tuck surgery is performed under general anesthesia so the better your health, the safer you are. Also, try a proper diet and exercise plan to trim your belly. Go for a tummy tuck only if your belly will not respond to proper diet and exercise. If a tummy tuck is your plan of action, then do a lot of homework on the matter to prepare yourself for what is to come. Pay special attention to selecting a surgeon that will not only be of good skill and reputation, but also be one that will put your mind at ease during consultations. Word of mouth recommendations would be a good place to start interviewing potential surgeons. Since tummy tuck is cosmetic surgery, most medical insurance will not pay for it. Most tummy tuck surgeons offer a form of payment plan to help finance your surgery. Consider also that there could be hidden costs that could crop up. It is wise to plan a budget taking into account the actual surgery and all the consultations before and after. Overnight stay at the hospital is also a very real possibility. Prepare your budget before committing to a tummy tuck.
